Cape St. Claire Pool Removal
This Cape St. Claire pool removal project was very typical of what happens to an old pool as it sits unused. Water may leak from inside the pool, or a large storm will cause flooding that creates excessive pressure build-up from under the structure of the pool. This hydraulic pressure will force the entire shell of the pool to lift out of the ground.
Carroll Bros. pulled the hydraulic plugs in the pool, releasing the pressure from within the pool. Once the water was drained, the pool removal team began to break down the structure. The pool shell is a spider web of metal rebar and concrete. It is advantageous if the area is intended to be used as “green space,” to utilize what materials already exist to help fill the pool and stabilize the hole.
Some of the concrete is removed and mixed in with the dirt, which is added back into the hole and tightly packed down in layers. This helps avoid creating future sinkholes and allows for proper drainage. The entire surface is then covered with topsoil and planted with grass seed. Growing new grass is imperative to prevent excessive dirt runoff. The result is a perfectly graded backyard.
